Serafín Mazparrote was a Spanish biologist and science communicator who settled in Venezuela at a young age. He studied at the prestigious Central University of Venezuela (UCV) and later furthered his knowledge at the Sorbonne in Paris. Throughout his career, he combined teaching in secondary schools with academic work at the Universidad de Oriente (UDO). He also stood out as a researcher and a regular contributor to various media outlets, which helped him earn his iconic title, “El Gran Profesor”. His passing in May 2015 was a profound loss to the academic community, but his work continues to educate new generations.
