Google’s crawler indexes everything it can find. When a spider hits an open directory, it follows every link. A search for intitle:"index of" "parent directory" "mp4" "avengers" would return thousands of live, clickable, direct-download links. You didn't need a torrent client; you just right-clicked and saved.
When misconfigured, a web server might expose sensitive information or, in this case, entire collections of media files. Search engines like Google index these pages. A user could, for example, search intitle:"index of" Hollywood movies to find servers where administrators neglected to disable directory browsing.
